The University of Malta continues to strengthen its international collaborations through a new academic partnership with in India. This partnership was formalised during the recent i-Sure International Conference, held in Bengaluru, where Prof. Franco Curmi, Head of the Department of Marketing within the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy, and Dr Conrad Attard, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of ICT, represented the University of Malta.
The conference, themed around Sustainable Development through Education and Research, brought together scholars and industry leaders from diverse disciplines to share research, foster dialogue, and explore future-oriented initiatives. Amid the vibrant setting of Bengaluru, marked by its cultural richness and dynamic innovation ecosystem, the event underscored the growing importance of cross-border academic engagement.
As part of the University’s strategic internationalisation efforts, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the University of Malta and Surana Educational Institutions, paving the way for collaborative research, student and faculty exchanges, and joint events.
The agreement reflects a shared commitment to knowledge exchange, interdisciplinary inquiry, and the advancement of education that responds to global challenges.
“Academic collaboration today is not merely about mobility; it is about the mutual shaping of ideas, frameworks, and solutions,” said Prof. Curmi. “In SEI we have found a partner that shares our belief in applied knowledge, ethical inquiry, and innovation with purpose.”
Dr Attard highlighted the potential for digital innovation in joint research and underscored the importance of aligning educational outcomes with societal needs.
Beyond formalities, the conference offered a space for reflection and exchange. “Conferences like i-Sure remind us that understanding is shaped not just by data but by place, dialogue, and perspective,” Prof. Curmi noted. “In Bengaluru, these conversations were made even more meaningful by the openness and generosity of our hosts.”
This collaboration is expected to generate value not only for the academic communities of both institutions but also for the wider societies they serve. It is an affirmation of the University of Malta’s ongoing mission: to foster knowledge that crosses borders and contributes to meaningful change.
