The Italian edition of a book on Grand Master Jehan de Valette, hero of the Great Siege of Malta and founder of Valletta, was recently launched at the Sala Dalì of the Instituto Cervantes, the Spanish Cultural Institute located in Piazza Navona, Rome. Written by , Director of the the book was translated into Italian by Prof. Carla Del Zotto of La Sapienza University in Rome and published by Graphe.it of Perugia.

The book explores the life and legacy of Grand Master Jehan de Valette—spelled as he signed his name—who is celebrated in Malta as a national hero and a symbol of the island’s identity. He is remembered for his pivotal role in the defence of Malta and the founding of its capital, Valletta, and is seen as embodying the courage and resilience of the Maltese people. The research draws on archival material from Malta, Rome, the Vatican, and the Archivo de Simancas, Valladolid, Spain.

The launch event was held with the support of the Ambassador of Malta to Italy, His Excellency Dr Daniel Azzopardi. Remarks were delivered by Dr Ignacio Peyrò, Director of the Instituto Cervantes; Ambassador Azzopardi; Prof. Cassar; Prof. Del Zotto; and the publisher, Dott. Roberto Russo.

This book is the latest volume in the I Condottieri series, which highlights notable military leaders of the past. The series is overseen by General Editor Prof. Gaetano Passarelli.
