It is with heavy hearts that the UM community bids farewell to one of its most cherished and unlikely icons: Felix, the beloved UM Library cat, who passed away last week.
For more than a decade, Felix was a comforting presence at the University Library, weaving his way into the hearts of students and staff alike. With his soft fur, ever-watchful eyes, and quiet dignity, he turned a place of study into a sanctuary of warmth. More than just a pet, Felix became a symbol of calm in our often-stressful world.
Felix arrived on campus with an uncanny knack for finding the sunniest spots. Before long, he had a name (more than one, actually), and a fan base that spanned generations of students.
He was there through all seasons鈥攏apping, lounging, and occasionally slipping into study rooms to quietly supervise marathon cramming sessions. During exam weeks, it wasn鈥檛 uncommon to see lines of students hoping for a quick stroke of his fur for luck. Many credited him with their calm and sometimes even their success.
Felix may be gone, but his legacy will purr on in every quiet corner of the library he loved. He reminded us all of the healing power of presence, and that sometimes, the most profound lessons come not from books, but from the quiet companionship of a small, furry friend.
Rest in peace, Felix. You were dearly loved.
