On Wednesday 28 May, His Excellency Mr Matt Skelly, the Australian High Commissioner to Malta, visited the . During the visit H.E. Matt Skelly met with Prof. In摹. Carl James Debono, Dean of the Faculty, and Prof. Matthew Montebello, Head, Department of Artificial Intelligence.
A virtual meeting was held with key representatives from RMIT to discuss potential collaboration opportunities in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly focusing on the education and maritime sectors.
Connecting remotely were Peter Thomas, Director of , RMIT鈥檚 Centre for Future Skills and Workforce Transformation and leader of a network of 50 industry fellows; Peter Creeden, global supply chain expert, RMIT's FORWARD fellow and strategic advisor; Spiros Soulis from RMIT Europe with a background in learning sciences and involvement in an Erasmus+ project focussing on AI; and Anna Munro, from RMIT Europe based in Barcelona.
Both institutions presented their latest research and interests, highlighting their commitments in the application of AI in both the education and maritime sectors.
In particular, a strong mutual interest in AI applications for education, including avatar-based delivery and personalized learning experiences was expressed by both parties. Furthermore, the potential for collaboration on EU research projects, particularly in AI and maritime field was discussed.
This meeting marks a significant step toward creating collaboration opportunities between RMIT and UM, with the aim of driving innovation and excellence through joint research and development initiatives.
