MCST, in collaboration with MITA and MEPA, has launched an App Challenge and invites competitors to come up with creative ideas for apps that help solve environmental and socio-economic challenges in Malta. This aims at raising awareness about the potential of exploiting open data, including European satellite datasets over Malta, for the benefit of Maltese citizens. The apps can include mobile and website applications, interactive online experiences or other software applications.

Applicants are to choose either of the following App Challenge strands:
- MCST/MEPA Environment Challenge
- MITA/MCST startApp 2.0 Challenge
The strands target different audiences and have different timelines. The best solutions are awarded a prize up to €15,000.
