The Institute for European Studies of the University of Malta is launching a call for abstracts for authors to contribute to its next publication entitled 'The Future of Europe'.
Resident and non-resident scholars, practitioners and specialists are invited to contribute to an analytical discussion of the Future of Europe, to be published in a peer-reviewed book at the end of 2019.

The following themes are suggested as possible research areas:
- What kind of Union should we aim for – federal, confederal, as it is or something else?
- The EU and its citizens: political participation; how to address the democratic deficit
- The views of the European Parliament and its Political Groups
- Social Europe
- The European Single Market
- Monetary Integration
- European Defence and Security
- Migration and Integration in the EU
- Europe in the World (1): Trade Policy and the WTO
- Europe in the World (2): The CFSP and Global Strategy
- Europe in the World (3): Development, Cooperation and Humanitarian Assistance
- Leading by example? Climate change, Environmental standards, social rights, what are the next frontiers?
- BREXIT and the EU
Other themes outside the list provided below can also be suggested, and will be considered by the editorial board.
Submission of Abstracts
Interested parties are invited to submit an abstract not exceeding 200 words describing how you would wish to structure your contribution. The abstract, which will receive individual feedback, will be discussed by the editorial board of this publication which is composed of Dr Mark Harwood, Professor Roderick Pace and Dr Stefano Moncada, all academic staff members of the Institute for European Studies.
Short summary of the main deadlines
1. Submission of a title and abstract by 15 November 2018 (by email to Stefano Moncada)
2. Authors will be informed about acceptance by 7 December 2018
3. Submission of first draft of papers by 28 February 2018
4. Length 4000 to 6000 words (including references/footnotes but excluding bibliography)
5. Blind review and revisions by April 2019
6. Final draft by mid-June 2019
7. The expected publication period of the edited book is mid-October 2019.
