The second edition: Dynamics of Mediterranean artistic interaction in the Late Middle Ages and Renaissance Periods
This one-day conference, which will be held on 10 April 2019 and is convened by Dr Charlene Vella from the University of Malta鈥檚 Department of Art and Art History, will be the second of a series of such conferences that will focus on the artistic exchange that occurred in the Mediterranean in the Late Medieval and Renaissance periods.
The Mediterranean basin, known as the cradle for civilization, is a melting pot of cultures and an international hub. In the Late Middle Ages and the Renaissance period, the Mediterranean witnessed crusades, pilgrimages, the rise of several maritime powers and military orders resulting in cultural diversity that is reflected in works of art.
The aim of this conference is to bring renowned academics to Malta, that has a unique position at the central of the Mediterranean, for an exchange of ideas. Following on last year鈥檚 success, this conference hopes to once again create a forum for the discussion of recent original ongoing research that interprets art related to these periods produced anywhere in the Mediterranean and that focusses on transcultural aspects in the Late Medieval and Renaissance periods.
We invite abstracts of up to 300 words in English, for 30-minute papers, and a short CV, by 4 March 2019. The conference will be in English. Please send abstracts to Dr Charlene Vella.
