Science in the City, is calling out to you! For the past eight years, on the last friday in September the spotlight shines on researchers and artists. The festival brings science and the arts together to create a night of colour, fun and wonder in Valletta’s streets and main squares. The increasing success of this unique event, however, is only possible thanks to a huge team of dedicated volunteers.
The theme for this year is ‘The Science of YOU’. The theme engages people with research about them, their health, but also the effect of science and technology on all of our society from blockchain to the environment. The Science in the City team have been working very hard over the year building a spectacular programme. With over 80 partners and an estimated 30,000 visitors, we really need all the help we can get. We’re looking for enthusiastic people of all ages and from all sectors of society, to join us on the 27th September and be part of this national effort to communicate research to every group in our society.
Do join us if you want to develop new skills, improve on pre-existing ones or simply join our crazy-fun team! Be it welcoming and ushering visitors, conducting research and evaluation, communicating information about the events, photography, or more, we’re sure you’ll find your place in this year’s Science in the City.
You can also boost your CV by working on the largest science communication festival on the island. Year after year, our volunteers get the opportunity to develop skills during our training sessions. The team offers the chance to work with a number of professionals from various fields while meeting some incredibly talented people! But don’t just take our word for it, we’re humbled to say that past volunteers said that this experience has been so much more than a learning experience, it’s a way of life, a chance to be part of an enthusiastic family of people of all ages and professions. Others mentioned it was a chance to meet new people and experience new challenges while having loads of fun.
Anyone interested in volunteering with Science in the City can until 9th August. For more information, people can email on volunteer@scienceinthecity.org.mt or follow on Facebook to stay tuned.
