Event: International Relations of Small States and Territories (IRL 2083)
Date: Wednesday 24 February 2021
Time: 14:00 - 15:00
Venue: Department of International Relations, University of Malta
The Department of International Relations is running a 2-ECTS module on International Relations of Small States and Territories (IRL 2083) starting on Wednesday 24 February from 14:00 to 15:00.
This module is open to students from all faculties at the University of Malta. Early registration is advised.
This module introduces the student to the exciting world of small states and territories. The focus is on the large number of small (often island) jurisdictions that practise their own diplomacy and international relations. These face particular material, economic and human resource constraint, but they can still 'punch above their weight' and influence agenda-setting and outcomes.
The study-unit will be delivered by Prof. Godfrey Baldacchino, who is an Island Studies Teaching Fellow at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), Canada; and outgoing Canada Research Chair in Island Studies (2003-2013) at the same University. He is founding Executive Editor of Island Studies Journal (ISSN: 1715-2593), now indexed in Web of Science, and incoming Executive Editor of Small States & Territories (a new, on-line, open access journal). He served as Visiting Professor of Island Tourism at the Universit脿 di Corsica Pascal Paoli, France (2012-2015). Professor Baldacchino is Malta's incoming Ambassador for Small States.
