About the Drama Group
In July 2009 a committee was set after two very successful events in which a group of people (children, youth and adults) took the leading role. These events were the Easter pageant and Mtarfa Day programme. In November same year we were also entrusted by the Mtarfa Local Council to organise a cultural event on the twining with Arvidsjaur.
From the outset the committee ensured that the members should be given all the opportunities and time to learn and educate themselves not only in drama but holistically. In this regards we try to involve our members in tasks that involve skills like carpentry, papier-mâché, painting, welding, knitting, stage and costumes design, and making sound and light technicians etc.…
In 2010 Mtarfa Drama Group was awarded Unur l-Imtarfa, while in 2013, John Micallef as the President of Mtarfa Drama Group was awarded Gieħ l-Imtarfa.
For the past years, the Group actively took part in the Military Mtarfa organised by Mtarfa Local Council both in the organisation itself and with various reenactments such as re-enactments of World War II, civilian life and solders training camp. The Group also took part in the nativity trail organized during the activity Natalis Notabils in Rabat.
Every Thursday children, youth and adults have sessions which include drama, dancing, singing and literature. Occasionally we organise outings such as to the Manuel Theatre and to St James Cavalier to enhance the cultural awareness of our members.
Occasionally Mtarfa Drama Group takes part in activities organised by Mtarfa, Naxxar, Gudja and Dingli Local Councils and other organisations such as the Majjistral Action Group.
