is an interactive e-learning application created within the European University of the Seas (SEA-EU), a European alliance between the universities in C谩diz (Spain), Brest (France), Kiel (Germany), Gdansk (Poland), Split (Croatia) and Malta (Malta).
Users can virtually participate in a marine research cruise and experience a digital simulation of three typical sampling methods in the interdisciplinary field of the marine sciences:
- Deploy a CTD rosette in order to obtain temperature and salinity profiles and take water samples for further ship-based analyses.
- Analyse the concentration of dissolved oxygen within seawater and
- Take sediment samples with different coring devices (Rumohr corer, gravity corer, drillship) and learn how to describe a sediment core (using Munsell Colour Charts).
While the original digiCruise covered three research locations close to Kiel, digiCruise Europe is a new extension that exceeds the borders and includes real scientific data from several locations near Gdansk, Brest and Malta.
Quizzes and questions encourage comparing the data from different European seas and drawing conclusions about the prevailing environmental conditions.
The application was created in collaboration with marine scientists from SEA-EU universities, e-learning experts and professional design agencies to ensure scientific accuracy and an engaging learning opportunity.
