Tai Chi is a martial art which focuses on being in harmony with oneself and with the Universe.
Alan Saliba Gauci will be conducting sessions every Friday starting from Friday 19 October from 12:30 to 13:30 at th 5-a-side football pitch. University of Malta Msida Campus These sessions are organised through the Health and Wellness Centre at UM and are open to staff and students.
Tai Chi provides a number of benefits such as improving circulation; according to Traditional Chinese Medicine the slow and graceful movements enhance circulation and allow flow of Qi (energy) to flow freely through the meridians thus generating warmness and heat (energy).
Another very useful benefit is to alleviate stress. In today's fast-paced frantic life, we are constantly under pressure and often neglect our own well-being. Thanks to Tai Chi practice, we can focus on the essential: the here and now. This means that we focus on the job at hand: thus importance of living in the present without having to worry too much about the past, which once gone can never be brought back, or the future, which is never promised for anyone.
Another important benefit is that of improving flexibility in the muscles and joints mostly due to the fluidity in the movements. This is especially beneficial for adults and senior citizens.
Make sure you wear comfortable clothing during sessions.
