Non-Plastic Alternatives for Food and Drink
Plastic cups, cutlery and plates will no longer be used by the Conferences and Events Unit of the University of Malta at internal and external conferences and events organised by the Unit. This commendable initiative will bring the UM closer to the elimination of single-use plastic and reduction of plastic waste on campus.
C-SUM strongly encourages other entities operating on Campus to emulate this initiative. The processing of plastic waste products has a significant impact on the environment particularly as many plastics are not degradable. Staff and students at the University are also encouraged to avoid the unnecessary disposal of plastic wherever possible. Besides avoiding disposables for events, other measures related to food consumption include using re-fillable bottles, keep-cups and lunch-boxes.
