COVID-19 pandemic - Library ¸£ÀûÔÚÏßÃâ·Ñ
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Library will be implementing the following measures as of Monday 15 March 2021:
- The Library will be open for the circulation of print publications.
- The study areas, desks and workstations will not be available for use.
- Anyone entering the premises should wear a mask or visor.
- Users will have their temperature checked and those with a temperature above 37.2°C will not be allowed to enter the premises
- Users are encouraged to use the Library’s remote online resources.
Books returned will be kept in quarantine for a period of 72 hours prior to being placed back on their respective shelves.
A Library staff member will keep a record of attendance.
Easter recess opening hours
During the Easter Recess (Monday, 29 March – Sunday, 11 April 2021), the Main Library will open from Mondays to Fridays between 07:00 - 17:00
The Library will be closed on:
- Wednesday, 31 March
- Friday, 2 April
- Saturday, 3 April
- Saturday, 10 April
New databases
The Library has recently licensed SAGE Knowledge Complete Books and Reference Collection.
SAGE Books include titles by world-class authors and editors on topics across the social sciences. The collection also includes academic and supplementary titles that contribute to the knowledge base of students and researchers, foundational books in core areas of research and debate, accessible student references, and numerous practical professional titles in education.

Consult a librarian online!
To provide support with educational and research activities during these difficult times, the UM Library is launching a Consult a Librarian Online! service. The service will allow you to schedule a one-to-one virtual appointment with one of our Librarians which can be focused on one of the following topics:
- Learning how to find relevant materials for your assignments and dissertations with HyDi and electronic databases
- Creating your bibliography with ProQuest RefWorks
- Building your Publication list with RefWorks Legacy (for academics)
- Uploading your publications on OAR@UM (for academics)

What's new in OAR@UM
On Wednesday 24 February 2021, the University of Malta Library, in cooperation with OpenAIRE, organised a half-day seminar entitled "Open Science: The Future of Scholarly Communication". Held exclusively online, the seminar focused, on the one hand, on highlighting the importance and benefits of Open Science as a mode of scholarly communication, and on the other hand on providing a comprehensive overview of tools and services created to facilitate the transition to a more open and sustainable information landscape, while giving the Maltese stakeholders a unique opportunity to discuss the possibilities of adopting Open Science practices in local settings.
The seminar featured a number of presentations by local as well as foreign academics, librarians and subject experts. Following the opening remarks, the program kicked off with a duo of contributions dedicated to Open Science Policies in a Local Context that outlined the contemporary status of Open Access and Research Data Management policies on both institutional and national level. The next two blocks (Research Data Management & FAIR Data Principles and Infrastructures: ¸£ÀûÔÚÏßÃâ·Ñ and Tools) brought forth presentations focused on technological solutions and initiatives enabling the long-term preservation and access to research outputs and data. Finally, the last segment, entitled Practical Views on Open Science: Challenges and Opportunities, presented, among others, personal perspectives of selected UM academics of the titular practice.
