Open science represents a fundamental concept in the world of science today, accelerating research across all fields, facilitating sustainable development, and providing the necessary technological solutions in a dynamically changing landscape. Fostering a culture of sharing, collaboration, and unfettered access to scientific knowledge, and embracing the key principles of transparency and reproducibility, it goes beyond open publishing of the scholarly literature – in fact, it also encompasses practices aiming to broadly disseminate the underlying methodology of research endeavours, associated software and hardware, educational resources, and, most importantly, the research data.
Having fully embraced the principles of Open Access to scientific publications, the University of Malta, in collaboration with , is currently paving the way towards the implementation of Open Data. To ensure that research data is organised in a manner that maximizes its visibility and reproducibility, a Research Data Management Policy is being prepared. The Policy will ultimately not only secure adequate sharing and archiving of data, but also delineate in practical terms how it should be handled throughout the entire research lifecycle.
As a first step towards its successful implementation, the UM is inviting you to participate in the . The questionnaire is intended to, on the one hand, gather feedback pertaining to your awareness of Open Science principles, readiness to share your own research data, and the extent to which you value accessing the data generated by others, and on the other hand, provide a better understanding about the prevailing expectations and experiences in the area of managing and publishing of research data within the UM academic community.
Kindly submit your responses by 16 September, 2022.
Your participation is greatly appreciated.
