What's new in Melitensia
Melitensia's Book of the month – February 2023
, written by Anna Borg Cardona and published by Midsea books.
The book starts by speaking about the musicians playing during the 17th century in Malta. It also mentions the music played mainly in Mdina and Valletta for occasions such as processions, public celebrations, elite entertainment and others. The second part is about the instrument builder Mattheo Morales (1637-1698) who lived in Valletta. An inventory of his goods provides us with a very rare description of his home, belongings and workshop where several guitars and other stringed instruments are found. Through his inventory there was a light to broader picture of life in 17th century Malta and its connectivity to the wider Mediterranean and Europe.
This publication is ideal for those who are attracted to musical culture and how it all started and evolved in the 17th century.
The list of new Melitensia acquisitions is available .
