In line with the local legislation and Waste Regulations S.L. 549.45 and S.L. 549.63, University has started providing support for the collection and disposal of biohazardous waste generated on campus.
This waste includes, but is not limited to:
- laboratory items that come in contact with human tissue
- animal or plant origin and body fluids
- liquid biohazardous waste contaminated with infectious agents
- sharps
- microbiological waste including discarded live and attenuated viruses
- discarded specimen cultures
- disposable culture dishes
- pathological waste
The collection and disposal of yellow bags and sharps containers is currently being organised on a monthly basis through the coordination between a waste management team and a registered broker as described in procedure ZRH-012: Management for the collection of yellow bags and sharps containers biohazardous waste.
Another procedure ZRH-013 has also been issued to provide guidelines on the Management of biohazardous waste during storage prior to collection for disposal.
