The Office of the Pro-Rector for Strategic Planning & Sustainability would like to draw the attention of all staff and students to the possibility of planting a tree on campus in memory of deceased UM staff and students.
An area on Campus has been earmarked for this purpose and your attention is drawn to the SOP which the Estates Directorate had drawn up in January this year for this purpose. If Faculties, Institutes, Centres, Schools, Departments, student organisations or other groups are interested in sponsoring a tree, please get in touch with Pro-Rector Prof. Valerie Sollars.
The area which has been identified for this purpose is located beside Gateway, near the monument which had been unveiled on campus when H.E. Ban-Ki-Moon first visited UM in 2009. In 2015, as the then United Nations General Secretary, Ban-Ki-Moon was awarded the Elisabeth Mann Borgese medal for his work in securing the successful launch of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the stand-alone goal on the oceans – SDG 14 concerning the Conservation and Sustainable Use of Oceans, Seas & Marine Resources for Sustainable Development.
