The 2026 edition of the international contest “Grandparents. Grand Stories. Family Treasures,” organised by the European Network Remembrance and Solidarity (ENRS) is being launched.
Every family preserves objects that carry memories and emotions passed down through generations. Photographs, letters, medals, documents, clothing, tools, and other everyday items often bear witness to the dramatic events and social changes of the 20th century. This year’s edition invites participants to explore the stories hidden behind these family treasures and to reflect on their personal and historical significance.
The contest encourages intergenerational dialogue by inspiring conversations with grandparents and older family members. By combining personal memories with historical context, participants help preserve family histories while gaining a deeper understanding of the past.
The competition is open to elementary and secondary school students, university students, and educators from around the world.
Submissions should include:
• a written description in English (up to 5,000 characters), and
• at least one photograph of the featured family treasure.
The deadline for submissions is 1 March 2026, 23:59 CET.
Winners in each age category will receive a €1,000 prize, along with international promotion of their work.
