One PhD student is being funded by the Ministry for Education, Sports, Education, Youth Research and Innovation, under a collaborative agreement between the University of Malta, the Ministry and Dublin City University, Ireland.

The student will be registered at the Centre for Resilience and Socio-Emotional Health, with co-supervision by the Centre for Social Disadvantage at Dublin City University Ireland, similarly another PhD student will start their studies at Dublin City University with co-supervision by the University of Malta.

The theme of the PhD programme is the mental health and wellbeing of adolescents from marginalised backgrounds and at risk of early leaving from school and education.  The first two students will start their PhD studies in 2025/2026 at the University of Malta and Dublin City University respectively, with calls for scholarships, published in November 2025.
