From Hairdresser to Criminologist: Daniella Rediscovers Her Path at UM

At 53, Daniella is about to graduate from the University of Malta with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology.

For many years, she worked as a hairdresser and ran her own business. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, however, Daniella felt it was time for a change. She decided to take a leap of faith and explore what the University of Malta had to offer. That’s when Criminology caught her eye.

Despite her enthusiasm, doubts began to creep in. Would she be able to keep up with academic work at her age? Was it too late to start over?

Daniella pushed through the uncertainty and proved to herself that it was possible. Not only did she complete her degree, but she is now furthering her studies with a Master’s in Transcultural Counselling.

Reflecting on her journey, she shares this message:

“I encourage anyone who is thinking of studying to take the leap of faith. Believe in yourself as much as I believe in myself.”
