Echoing this year’s motto, the UM Rector emphasised that University education has a vital role in shaping a just, sustainable and peaceful world, as beyond imparting technical knowledge and professional skills, it nurtures critical thinking, ethical responsibility and global citizenship. Universities are a space for dialogue and collaboration, and a force for collective transformation towards a more harmonious future, he continued.
Mr Zammit Young’s address focused on how students should not take their opportunity to study, question and grow, for granted, but utilise it to shape the world around them into something better than what they found.
Following the Opening Ceremony, they proceeded to the UM stand, officially kicking off KSU Freshers’ Week celebrations.
Dozens of vibrant stands, open from Monday 29 September to Friday 3 October, will welcome students with freebies, games, and giveaways, while also providing opportunities to join student organisations, explore campus services, and connect with the wider UM community.
A slew of dignitaries will attend the event throughout the week, with Prime Minister Robert Abela and Dr Lydia Abela visiting on Monday, where they engaged with students and asked about their aspirations and future goals, and Leader of the Opposition, Dr Alex Borg visiting on Tuesday morning.
