Dr Simone Azzopardi se tesplora kif il-poeta jirrappre偶enta l-mara u l-ideal femminili fid-dawl tal-kuntest kolonjali u so膵jali ta’ 偶mienu filwaqt li l-Prof. Immanuel Mifsud se janalizza kif il-poe偶ija ta’ Dun Karm, spe膵jalment dik politika, to魔loq diskors ta’ distinzjoni bejn “jien” u &濒诲辩耻辞;濒-颈别魔辞谤&谤诲辩耻辞;.

On Wednesday, 5 November 2025, the Department of Maltese at the University of Malta will host the Karmen Mikallef Bu魔a摹ar Conference, which this year will take the form of three short talks offering different perspectives on Dun Karm.

Prof. Dominic Fenech will discuss the period between the two World Wars as a time of political and cultural transformation and awakening that helps illuminate Dun Karm’s poetry. Dr Simone Azzopardi will explore how the poet represents women and the feminine ideal within the colonial and social context of his time, while Prof. Immanuel Mifsud will examine how Dun Karm’s poetry, especially his political verse, constructs a discourse of distinction between “the self” and “the other.”
