Interreg VI-A Italia Malta

Interreg is a Programme co-funded by the European Union (EU) that supports international cooperation.

All Projects should aim to cooperate, find coherence across national and regional policies, along with application of innovation.

If you’re interested in applying as a principal investigator (PI) for the University of Malta, academics can develop proposals for ONLY one objective from those listed here below.

Priority 1
A smarter area of cooperation to promote research and innovation and the development of skills for smart specialisation.

  • Objective 1.1 – Developing and enhancing research and innovation capacities and the uptake of advanced technologies in the cross-border area (RSO1.1)
  • Objective 1.2 - Please note, University of Malta is not participating in Objective 1.2 (RSO1.4)

Priority 2
A resilient cooperation area, which strengthens the protection and preservation of nature also through the efficient use of resources.

  • Objective 2.1 – Promoting climate change adaptation, disaster risk prevention and resilience in the cross-border area (RSO2.4)
  • Objective 2.2 - Promoting the transition to a circular economy in the cross-border area (RSO2.6)

Priority 3
An area of efficient cooperation in social capital through the role of culture and sustainable tourism in economic development.

  • Objective 3.1 - Enhancing the role of culture and sustainable tourism in the cross-border area in economic development, social inclusion and social innovation (RSO4.6)

Priority 4
An area of cooperation with better governance between Italy and Malta.

  • Objective 4.1 - Enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of cooperation in the cross-border area (ISO6.4)

Please note, the  is an online submission platform used by Interreg and it is the first time that it will be used for calls under their programme for Italia Malta. The recommendation is to submit all the required documents before 20 January 2026. This early submission can allow time to solve any technical issues which may arise. For additional help, Interreg has also published a guideline about the submission process:
