Entry into undergraduate (Bachelor's degree) courses:

To be considered for admission and to satisfy the University’s General Entry Requirements you need to present:

The Diploma di Esame di Stato / Diploma di Maturità (Classica/Scientifica/Linguistica/Scienze umane) with an acceptable overall average, and good passes in a language (excluding English), a humanistic subject and a science subject (preferably Mathematics) in the final year of studies. If not presented in the final year of studies, good passes in a language (excluding English) and Mathematics may be accepted from the penultimate year; and

Entry into courses having Special Requirements:

Any applicable Special Course Requirements will be satisfied if you present final passes with a grade of 9 or better in the subjects stipulated as Special Course Requirements (except for English language). 

When the relevant course bye-laws stipulate a Special Requirement of Advanced Matriculation pass at grade C or better in Italian, a final grade of 8 or better will be accepted to fulfil this requirement.

A final grade of 7 or better will be accepted when the applicable course bye-laws require passes at Intermediate level to fulfil the applicable Special Course Requirements (except for English language).

Entry into capped courses, the Doctor of Medicine and Surgery course, and the Master of Dental Surgery course:

When applying for such courses, applicants would be required to fulfil the UM’s General Entry Requirements as per above, and separately present passes in the applicable Special Course Requirements from the Maltese examination board, MATSEC, or comparable examination boards, at the level and grade stipulated in the respective course regulations or bye-laws. These requirements can be accessed from the respective course overview in the UM’s Course Finder.

Entry into postgraduate (Master's degree) courses:

If you are looking to apply for a Master's course, we recommend referring to the specific requirements indicated on the Course Finder. In most cases, you must possess an undergraduate degree at a certain classification / GPA, depending on the chosen course. 

The overall scores from the Italian Laurea (Bachelor) will be accepted as equivalent to UM Final Classification Results as follows:

1st Class Honours / Category I: 110

2nd Class Honours (Upper Division) / Category IIA: 101 - 109

2nd Class Honours (Lower Division) / Category IIB: 91 - 100

3rd Class Honours / Category III: 86 - 90

Applications for Master's courses are always assessed on a case-by-case basis following the receipt of a complete application.

English Language Requirements:

Applicants are also required to fulfil the University's English Language Requirements by means of a valid Secure English Language Test (SELT). Access more information in this regard.
