European Week for Waste Reduction - announcements

As part of the , the University of Malta is participating in the following initiatives:

Clothes on hangers

Students from the Institute of Earth Systems and the Faculty of Education have come together to set up a Thrift Shop on Campus. The Thrift Shop will be open on Friday 21 and Monday 24 November 2025 from 09.00 onwards at the KSU Common Room.

This is an initiative undertaken by students in collaboration with the Office of the Pro-Rector for Strategic Planning and Sustainability. The UM Community came together to donate clothes in good condition and then encouraged to purchase clothing items at the Thrift Shop against a small donation. The money collected will be given to charity.

Textiles

Turning fashion on its head with Trash to Trend — a two-day ethical fashion campaign dedicated to creativity, sustainability, and conscious style choices.

On 18 and 21 November, students and staff are invited to join hands-on workshops where they’ll learn how to give new life to their old clothes. From basic sewing techniques to visible mending and sewing machine skills, participants will discover practical ways to refresh their wardrobe — while helping the planet.
