Abstract: This study investigates the design and implementation of Aviation English courses, emphasising their critical role in ensuring aviation safety and efficiency. Since English was designated as the official language of aviation in 1944, Aviation English has evolved to meet the specific communication needs of the industry. This study examines how Aviation English teachers design and deliver their courses, focusing in particular on the criteria they use to select or create course materials. Through a qualitative approach involving Aviation English teachers from diverse backgrounds, the study highlights the importance of needs analysis, tailored materials and effective teaching strategies. It identifies challenges such as outdated resources for learners and underscores the need for collaboration with subject matter experts to develop relevant course content. The findings offer insights for educators, curriculum developers and policymakers, emphasising the need to update teaching materials and align them with industry developments.
