A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed between the Group and the Department of Computer ¸£ÀûÔÚÏßÃâ·Ñ Systems within the Faculty of ¸£ÀûÔÚÏßÃâ·Ñ and Communication Technology (ICT) at the University of Malta, marking a significant step towards deepening collaboration in the areas of artificial intelligence, robotics, and digital health.
The agreement reflects a shared vision to harness technology in shaping the future of care, placing both institutions at the forefront of digital transformation in Malta’s health and social sectors. Together, they aim to bridge the gap between academic research and real-world application, driving solutions that enhance the quality of life for residents, caregivers, and communities.
Through this collaboration, the partners will promote knowledge exchange and cutting-edge research in emerging areas, including artificial intelligence, robotics, and digital health.
The initiative also focuses on enhancing user engagement and technological integration across CareMalta Group’s operations, all while engaging management, staff, residents, and their relatives in co-creating meaningful innovation.
The MoU will further support research dissemination, community collaboration, and joint events hosted at CareMalta’s facilities, helping to build a vibrant network of professionals, researchers, and stakeholders committed to advancing person-centred digital solutions.
The agreement was signed by Dr Conrad Attard, Project Lead and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of ICT, representing the Department of Computer ¸£ÀûÔÚÏßÃâ·Ñ Systems; , Chief Executive Officer of CareMalta Group; and Prof. Alfred J. Vella, Rector of the University of Malta.

“For the CareMalta Group, today marks an important step in our ongoing collaboration with the University, now involving a fourth Faculty. This partnership reflects how our values merge with those of the University, allowing us to enhance quality of life through technology.
Our commitment extends to older adults, persons with disabilities, children, and those with mental health challenges. CareMalta remains at the forefront of technological advancement, applying innovations nationally to enhance person-centred care.”
Prof. Vella commended both parties for taking a forward-looking approach to interdisciplinary collaboration:
“This agreement reflects the University’s ongoing efforts to work closely with industry partners to address real challenges through applied research and innovation. The collaboration between the Faculty of ICT and CareMalta exemplifies how academic expertise can contribute directly to societal wellbeing.”
Also present for the signing were members of Senior Management at the Care Malta Group, including Mr Noel Borg, Chief Operating Officer, and Dr Francesca Muscat, a published researcher with a passion for community-based rehabilitation and the well-being of older adults and digital health.
