The University of Malta has renewed its collaboration with the Phoenicians’ Route Association, joining the International Universities Network to advance joint research and cultural‑tourism initiatives focused on Mediterranean heritage.
The University of Malta is represented through the Institute of Maltese Studies and its director Prof. Carmel Cassar, as well as Dr Karsten Xuereb in his capacity as coordinator of the Scientific Committee. The Phoenicians' Route established as an International Universities Network in 2017 in order to promote a Knowledge and Cooperation Network in the research and promotion of economic, scientific and cultural projects of common interest related to the following themes: tangible and intangible cultural heritage, intercultural dialogue, cultural tourism, archaeology and history, tourism sciences and local development, education and pedagogy, cultural management, communication and sustainable development, landscape and cultural itineraries, with particular attention to the Phoenicians' Route, Cultural Route of the Council of Europe. The agreement will run till 2029.
