Following the release of the 2026 Times Higher Education Rankings, which evaluated over 2,000 research-intensive universities across 115 countries and territories, the , recording a positive performance across most ranking bands.
This boost was achieved despite the addition of 99 newly-ranked institutions, bringing the number up from 2,092 to 2,191. UM featured for the seventh consecutive year and has maintained its position within the 801–1000 band.
Times Higher Education Rankings scored institutions in five key areas, namely: (1) Teaching, (2) Research Environment, (3) Research Quality, (4) Industry and (5) International Outlook.
UM achieved its highest overall score to date (35.5–38.9), reflecting net improvements across four of the five key ranking pillars. Improvements were recorded by UM, as follows:
International Outlook remains the University’s strongest area, where it ranks 716th globally. But, the most significant improvement was recorded in the Industry category, reflecting the University’s strategic commitment to strengthening collaboration with industry partners: a priority also embedded in the recently-launched UM Strategy 2026–2030.
Strong showings have also been recorded in the . Out of all subject categories, UM scored best in the Business and Economics area, maintaining its 301-400 band for the second consecutive year. Here is a summary of UM’s performance:
