Concept Note
How can research help redress the ways children are silenced, underestimated or marginalised? Can children be researchers into their own lives?
This lecture will offer insights from the new edition of the book 'Rethinking Children's Rights' (Bloomsbury 2018).
The lecture will also draw on recent UK research which Prof Phil Jones has led and which was funded by the Office of the Children鈥檚 Commissioner for England and by the Lankelly Chase Foundation. In particular it will explore a pilot research project which offered the opportunity for children and young people experiencing disadvantage to train as researchers and to develop and implement projects to explore their own, and other children鈥檚, experiences and views. It involved the formation of a group of children as a reference group for the pilot and collaboration between University College London's Institute of Education and four different partner organisations working with children experiencing disadvantage.
