This year the National Library of Malta has launched a new initiative earmarked to promote and encourage the importance of research for the educational and cultural field.
This programme - Discoveries from the Past: Promoting Research Findings - is coordinated by Maroma Camilleri and Mevrick Spiteri and provides the general public with the opportunity to learn about new findings brought to light as a result of research work. Sessions are organised in collaboration with the Department of History and the Department of Conservation and Built Heritage of the University of Malta.
This month’s lecture: ‘Conservation of the Pérez d’Aleccio Great Siege wall painting cycle: recent findings from the University of Malta’s ongoing project’ will be delivered by Jennifer Porter & Teal Patterson. The talk will introduce the project to conserve the Perez d’Aleccio Great Siege wall painting cycle, and report on recent research undertaken to deepen our understanding of the history of the paintings since their creation. Through archival research and in situ examinations, the conservation team have revealed some little-known details of the paintings’ past, which will serve to guide conservation decisions and ultimately enrich the public’s perception of this iconic artwork.
This second lecture in a series of 8 free public lectures will be held on Thursday 12 December 2019 at 18:30 at the National Library, Valletta.
