The Electromagnetic Research Group within the Department of Physics would like to invite you to a talk entitled 'Breast cancer diagnosis' by Dr Raquel Concei莽茫o from the University of Lisbon, Portugal on Wednesday, 11 May at 13:00 in Room 401 Maths & Physics Building (MP401), University of Malta, Msida Campus.
This talk will focus on the description of typical microwave imaging radar systems. Examples of research completed towards the following applications of microwave imaging will be given: detection and diagnosis of breast cancer, classification of breast tumours as benign or malignant, initial work regarding detection and classification of metastasised and healthy axillary lymph nodes.
Dr Raquel Concei莽茫o: Award winning post-doctoral researcher with a significant record of peer-reviewed publications and funded grants. The researcher currently is an Invited Assistant Professor at the University of Lisbon, Portugal, developing microwave imaging techniques to detect and classify breast cancer. She is the chair for COST Action TD1301 (Development of a European-based Collaborative Network to Accelerate Technological, Clinical and Commercialisation Progress in the Area of Medical Microwave Imaging). She holds a Ph.D. in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (2011), and an Integrated Masters in Biomedical Engineering (2007), from the National University of Ireland Galway (NUIG) and Faculdade de Ci锚ncias e Tecnologia, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, FCT-UNL (Faculty of Science and Technology, New University of Lisbon), respectively.
