On the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the beginning of the Protestant Reformation, the Department of German offers a public talk about Martin Luther and the German Language. The famous religious reformer had an important influence on the German language with an impact on our every-day, written and spoken, language. Why was his translation of the Bible more successful than others? And did you know that many phrases which are still often used today were created by Martin Luther?
The talk (in German) will be held by Dr Ralf Heimrath on Friday, 20 October at 19:00 at the German Maltese Circle, in Valletta.
Dr Ralf Heimrath, is Senior Lecturer at the Department of German, at the University of Malta.

Der ber眉hmte Reformator hatte einen gro脽en Einfluss auf die deutsche Sprache, die sich bis heute im Alltag auf unser Schreiben und Sprechen auswirkt. Warum war z.B. seine Bibel眉bersetzung erfolgreicher als andere? Oder wussten Sie, dass viele heutige oft verwendete Redewendungen aus der Feder von Martin Luther stammen?
Der Vortrag findet am 20. Oktober 2017 im Geb盲ude des Deutsch-maltesischen Zirkels, Messina Palace, Valletta, in deutscher Sprache statt. Referent ist Dr. Ralf Heimrath.
