The Human Rights Platform will be holding its annual Human Rights Lecture on Tuesday 17 November 2020 between 18:00 and 20:00. The lecture will be held online. The event will host two talks by the winners of the 2019 Human Rights Award.
Advocating Against Female Genital Mutilation by Dr Jeanise Dalli
This talk will discuss the development of the advocacy campaign against the phenomenon of female genital mutilation (FGM) at the international and European level, with reference to the Maltese debate and the historical events which led to the enactment of specific criminal law against FGM in Malta.
The Disabled Child鈥檚 Participation Rights by Dr Anne-Marie Callus and Dr Ruth Farrugia
The rights of disabled children comprise the right to have their voice heard, to have their perspectives taken into account and to participate in decision-making processes that affect them. This talk will consider disabled children鈥檚 participation rights from legal and sociological perspectives to highlight ways in which these rights are promoted and factors that place them at risk.
