The Mediterranean Institute is pleased to announce that the next guest speakers at the Mediterranean Institute Seminar are Dr Alexander Vella Gregory and Ms Giuliana Barbaro-Sant who shall be speaking about ‘RITWALI: a journey through our rituals and the stories they create’.
The Seminar will take place via Zoom session on Friday, 21 May at 18:00.
RITWALI is an ongoing conversation about our collective and individual experiences of spiritual and religious rituals of the Maltese Islands, through storytelling, art and research. Born during the pandemic, namely a time when these rituals could not be performed, RITWALI has created a collection of these different stories and experiences, to engender a more holistic understanding of the rituals that form such an intrinsic part of our identity and being in the world. Co-created by Alexander Vella Gregory and Giuliana Barbaro-Sant, RITWALI is an invitation to reflect upon the value of rituals and the stories they create in our lives and those of future generations.
The speakers:
- Dr Alexander Vella Gregory, Ph.D (Edin.), is a composer and researcher whose artistic practice centres around community, narratives & identity. His doctoral thesis on composition explores the creation of new musical works based on complex urban narratives, with a particular focus on Valletta.
- Ms Giuliana Barbaro-Sant M.A. (Melit.) is a creative director and cultural project manager, specialising in the creation and curation of narratives through digital media and performance.
