To mark World Town Planning Day 2021, the Department for Spatial Planning and Infrastructure and the Malta Chamber of Planners, under the aegis of the European Council of Town Planners, shall be hosting a conference entitled, Post-Covid Planning: Moving Towards More Resilient Communities.

To mark World Town Planning Day 2021, the Department for Spatial Planning and Infrastructure and the Malta Chamber of Planners, under the aegis of the European Council of Town Planners, shall be hosting a conference entitled, Post-Covid Planning: Moving Towards More Resilient Communities.
  The main theme of the Conference, which will be held on Monday 8 November, was chosen in recognition of the fact that the Covid-19 pandemic has dealt a significant blow to many around the world, and it is not over yet. Economic activity has declined substantially, affecting communities and having an impact also on the physical environment. Strategic spatial planning needs to be given its due importance in this period, with value being given primarily to the quality of life on the Islands.
  
Professor Vincent Goodstadt will present a keynote session addressing these issues, which shall be followed by three parallel sessions.
  
The themes of the sessions are:

- Supporting local governance in a changing demographic situations
 - Implementing innovative sustainable infrastructure
 - The economic role of the construction industry.
 
  A poster session highlighting the work of Third Year Built Environment students shall follow the parallel sessions. The featured project is an urban design scheme for Hal Mula, in Zebbu摹, for which the students were asked to consider public open spaces around social accommodation at the heart of the project.
  The conference will be conducted both in presence at the University of Malta Valletta Campus and online via Zoom.
