The Michael Sant Annual Lecture has been organised since 2002 by our Faculty of Education and the History Teachers Association since 2002. It is an event in memory of Michael Sant, the history pedagogist of the Faculty who was a pioneer in introducing innovative history teaching in Malta. This year, it will be the 22nd lecture and the speaker will be Prof. Luigi Cajani who will give a presentation on ‘History Teaching In Italy’.
Luigi Cajani is a professor for Early Modern History at the Sapienza University of Rome. In 2001 he coordinated the Commission of the Italian Ministry of Education for the reform of the history, geography and social sciences curricula for the primary school. He has been from 2012 to 2018 president of the International Research Association for History and Social Sciences Education (IRAHSSE). In 2022 he founded with other colelagues the Società italiana di didattica delal storia. Together with he has recently edited Negotiating Ethnic Diversity and National Identity in History Education. International and Comparative Perspectives (Cham: Palgrave Macmillan, 2023).
