Although the Bible is not a history book, it contains a great deal of reliable historical information, despite some errors when it comes to certain historical or geographical matters. It is important to remember that in the biblical texts it is the truth which pertains to our salvation that can contain no error whatsoever. If we take into account the literary composition and genres of the various texts, we can better appreciate what the biblical narratives want to teach us about such things as the miracles of Jesus without undermining their historicity.
