Event: Seminar: A New Kind of Cybersecurity: Quantum-Secured Networking in Malta
Date: 22 November 2023
Time: 09:00 - 13:00
Venue: Faculty of ICT Auditorium, UM Msida Campus
The Faculty of ICT, on behalf of the project, is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a seminar in the Faculty of ICT Auditorium between 09:00 and 13:00 on Wednesday 22 November. This half-day seminar is taking place at ICT, as part of the PRISM project (EU co-funded, where UM is one of the partners).
Our upcoming seminar, entitled “A New Kind of Cybersecurity: Quantum Secured-Networking in Malta”, will introduce the quantum threat, detail why action must be taken now, how the threat can be counteracted, and what can be done to ensure Malta is at the forefront of these activities.
In addition, two panel discussions will take place featuring some of the brightest technological minds from both the public and private sector.
The seminar is free and light refreshments will be served. Attendance is open to all interested parties.
Abstract: Quantum computers are known to be able to break public key cryptography. Even worse, data harvested today can be stored and decrypted later; any entity that sends high volumes of sensitive data could very well be leaking information as we speak. For this reason, the European Commission has launched a set of projects aimed at creating a Europe-wide quantum communication infrastructure. Here in Malta, our project PRISM (“Physical Security for Public Infrastructure in Malta”) is building a country-wide test-bed quantum network over the next two years.
The seminar will feature keynote presentations by Vanessa Diaz, CEO of LuxQuanta, (a spin-off from The Institute of Photonic Sciences, a world-leading research centre on photonics and quantum technologies) and Prof. Andre Xuereb, CEO of Merqury Cybersecurity and the Head of the Physics Department at the University of Malta.
In addition, two panel discussions will take place featuring some of the brightest technological minds from both the public and private sector.
The seminar is free and light refreshments will be served. Attendance is open to all interested parties.
