Abstract
Every time you post something on Instagram, Tik-Tok, Facebook or other social media you are unwittingly contributing to the feast that OSINT analysts are having off your backs. OSINT (or Open Source Intelligence for the uninitiated) includes sub-fields such as SOCMINT i.e. Social Media Intelligence.
Somewhere out there, professional or DIY analysts may be using your posts together with millions of others to piece together a detailed picture of whatever they may happen to be interested in.
OSINT can be used both for a host of good and nefarious purposes, from identifying perpetrators and victims of war crimes to engaging in – or trying to prevent – human trafficking. This talk will provide insights into some of IPG’s research projects on OSINT analysis, what it means and how it may possibly help.
