Abstract
Human relations involve encounters between individuals who demonstrate distinct psychological tendencies. These are rooted in underlying socio-cognitive processes that serve to differentiate social stimuli and provide a platform for coalitional behaviour.
This seminar will explore the role worldviews play in mustering social support for or against particular social issues. It looks at the rhetorical features of distinct points of views that transcend demographic categories. Following a discussion of their salient features and the role they play on social behaviour, the seminar concludes by raising various concerns for future empirical inquiry.
Speaker鈥檚 Profile
Prof. Gordon Sammut is a Professor of Social Psychology at the Department of Cognitive Science and Director of the .
His research focuses on the socio-cognitive tendencies that determine coalitional behaviour. He has studied immigrant encounters towards identifying argumentation strategies to overcome intergroup and intercultural divides.
He has worked on various national and European funded projects and served on various editorial boards. His forthcoming volume on bridging social and cultural borders is due to be published in 2025 by Cambridge University Press.
