Venue: LC116, Lecture Centre, University of Malta, Msida Campus
The Master of Arts in Film Studies, in collaboration with the Department of English, is pleased to invite the public to a second lecture by Prof. Nigel Wood, from Loughborough University: "The Shining and The Piano: Montage, Gender and Cinema".
With special reference to the films The Shining (Stanley Kubrick, 1980) and The Piano (Jane Campion, 1993), this lecture will attempt to exemplify how aspects of montage help us understand the distinctive directorial styles of the two filmmakers. Prof. Wood will also tackle aspects of feminist approaches to gender in film representation.
Prof. Nigel Wood lectures on Film for Communication and Media students at Loughborough University (UK) and is interested in theories of reception and audience reaction. He was General Editor of the Open University series of Theory in Practice, and has co-edited (with David Lodge) the second and third editions of the Modern Criticism and Theory: A Reader (a volume that has now sold 120,000 copies worldwide).
