Speaker Biography
Prof. Esmeralda Santacruz Salas graduated in Nursing. She is a Specialist in Family and Community Nursing and a Doctor in Nursing. She also has a master鈥檚 degree in sexual education and therapy and another in research.
Prof. Salas has carried out professional work as a nurse at different levels of care and areas of specialisation for 16 years. During these years, in addition to her own care tasks, she launched the first breastfeeding workshop in the city, wrote a book on breastfeeding for professionals in the area and began research tasks with two studies and their respective publications.
For 8 years, Prof. Salas has been working as a full-time teaching nurse at the University of Castilla La Mancha (Toledo, Spain). In these years she has taught the subjects of Medical Surgical Nursing (EMQ) 1, EMQ 3, EMQ 4, Legislation and ethics and Human Anatomy. These last two are the ones she currently teach. Prof. Salas' teaching experience accumulates almost 2000 hours. aimed at nursing students, almost 70 hours of training in the official Master's Degree in Long-Term Nursing Care, more than 400 hours in seminars and specialisation courses for already trained professionals and almost 300 hours taught to different groups of the general population. Also, she has coordinated more than 40 final degree and master's projects and is currently directing a doctoral thesis related to her research line.
Prof. Salas has 15 scientific publications, four book chapters and one book. She has carried out a 3-month research stay at the University of Milwaukee, WI (USA) and maintains collaboration with several professors at different American Universities. Her experience and interest in the field of health and preventive practices of other population groups allows Prof. Salas to work in other lines of research collaboratively with other colleagues. However, her main line of research is about breastfeeding, parenting, and motherhood. She has led 2 national and 2 regional multicenter studies. The results of these studies have made it possible for her to be a member of research committees and a speaker at various representative Congresses, as well as to carry out different dissemination and transfer activities in different media. Prof. Salas has received special mention and several awards in various communications presented.
