This documentary presents a montage of interviews and experiences of the Baihuaeri Waorani people as they face an identity and environmental crisis caused by oil companies and other corporate entities. Mariah Cutajar, one of the producers, and Adrian Camilleri, a visual anthropologist will lead the discussion.
Speaker Bios:
Mr Adrian Camilleri
Adrian Camilleri is a Maltese anthropologist and artist who works in film, sound and photography. He studied at the University of Malta and University College London and is currently a PhD student with the Department of Anthropology. Since 2019, Camilleri has taught Visual Anthropology at University of Malta and has done fieldwork in West Africa, Malta and England. He has made numerous experimental and ethnographic short films. In his work he aims to produce an “aesthetic experience, which draws and reflects on what makes us human”.
Ms Mariah Cutajar
Mariah Cutajar is a photographer and documentary producer currently pursuing a degree in Anthropology at the University of Malta. In 2022, she produced a documentary titled " The Guardians of Pachamama." This documentary, created alongside a team of filmmakers, presents a montage of interviews and experiences of the Baihuaeri Waorani people as they face an identity and environmental crisis caused by oil companies and other corporate entities. Mariah aims to continue creating visual narratives that amplify the voices of communities under threat.
