Event: Auxetic Materials: Expandable Materials For Greater Comfort
Date: 04 February 2025
Time: 19:00-20:30
Venue: Spazju Kreattiv, Studio A, Valletta
Auxetic materials, unlike most, become thicker when stretched. This rare property, observed in tendons and salamander skin, has been replicated by physicists and engineers in auxetic foam, which is now being upscaled for commercial use, promising enhanced comfort at a lower cost. Additionally, Covalent Organic Frameworks (COFs) are being explored for auxeticity in specialised applications like nano-filters and antimicrobial uses. On 4 February 2025, Dr Maria Cardona will discuss the creation and potential everyday uses of these innovative materials in a talk at Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta. The event will include a discussion with Dr Matthew Xuereb and Ms Mary-Grace Muscat, hosted by Malta Caf茅 Scientifique.
