On Friday 28 February 2025 at 19:30, the world-renowned harpist Florence Sitruk will perform an extraordinary recital titled Suites Across the Centuries in the Carmelite Church in Mdina.
Florence Sitruk, hailed as one of the finest harpists of our time, is famous for her expressive artistry and technical brilliance, as well as being one of the most sought after pedagogues in the harp world and beyond. Having performed on prestigious stages worldwide, she now brings expertise to Malta for an evening of music that travels across the centuries. The historic Carmelite Church, with its fine acoustics and tranquil atmosphere, will provide the perfect setting for this evocative program.
The concert programme consists of a number of suites from different centuries. The form had its origin during the Baroque period, which is represented by Bach. Suites by the 20th century Benjamin Britten and the Maltese composer Albert Pace (a member of the academic staff of the University of Malta and the Junior College) are also included.
The latter鈥檚 suite will be given the full premiere. It consists of the traditional movements of a Baroque suite, distorted, so to speak, through contemporary eyes.
The other highlight of this special visit will be a chamber music and harp masterclass by Prof. Sitruk the following day at the St Augustine Priory in Valletta. This would be a rare opportunity for Maltese musicians and students to learn from one of the world鈥檚 foremost musicians and teachers.
This evening with Florence Sitruk in the heart of Mdina is sure to be an unforgettable experience. Tickets are available , and applications for the masterclass can be found on the .
