Dr Nadia Portelli, a senior lecturer at Junior College has recently become the first Maltese woman to complete the TDS race, held during the Ultra Trail World Series Finals week in Chamonix, France. The TDS is considered as the most technical and demanding race during this week due to its unforgiving terrain and steep climbs. This year鈥檚 edition covered 154 km with 9,300 m of elevation gain, starting in Courmayeur, Italy and finishing in Chamonix. The course traverses remote alpine terrain and draws elite endurance athletes from around the world.
Out of 1,935 registered participants (212 women and 1,723 men), only 1,208 runners completed the race (142 women and 1,066 men). Dr Portelli鈥檚 finish marks a significant milestone for Maltese endurance sport and female ultra-trail running.
