On 4 December 2025, Dr Joseph Chircop, Quality Coordinator within LING, the Translation Service at the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union, visited the College to speak about the role of the translation services to the Council of the European Union.
The session allowed for an interesting discussion with the students attending the talk about the role of translation and its relevance in present times in view of the new challenges the world of AI is offering. Dr Chircop also explained the different job opportunities arising within the institution and highlighted the important role of translating within the EU context.
The students had the opportunity to put forward their questions regarding work and translation services at the EU, language combinations which would allow you to take up translation jobs within the EU and advantages and disadvantages of living and working in a foreign country. Dr Chircop encouraged the students to maintain their interest, increase their curiosity and to always retain an eagerness to learn more. He also reminded them of the traineeship programmes which would become available to them with a first degree.
