Conservation of the Nymphaeum at the Argotti Gardens and visit by MTA sponsors

The conservation of the elaborately decorated Nymphaeum at the Argotti Gardens continues apace. Led by academic and professional conservator Jennifer Porter, aided by conservators Michel Salameh and Eleonora Genova, the project greatly benefits from a generous sponsorship by the MTA, secured through the good offices of the . The RIDT has consistently and successfully supported the Department of Conservation and Built Heritage in its conservation of heritage gems in Malta, including that of the Great Siege wall paintings in the Throne Room of the President's Palace in Valletta, recently completed. These projects, besides giving back to the community important works of art, are also an integral part of the Master of Conservation course run by the Department.

Recently, a delegation from the MTA, accompanied by Mr Wilfred Kenely and Ms Claudette Buttitieg of the RIDT, visited the Nymphaeum where the conservators explained to them the progress on the works. They were also addressed by Prof. JoAnn Cassar, Head of the Department of Conservation and Built Heritage. Current, and possible future collaborations between the Department, RIDT and the MTA were also discussed.

The Department wishes to sincerely thank the MTA, and the RIDT, for this excellent collaboration and look forward to other such site visits.
